Vietnamese Hackers Hit Digital Marketers With Info-stealer Malware
Cybercrime groups in Vietnam are targeting the digital marketing sectors in the UK, US, and India with various malware strains, including DarkGate. They use social engineering campaigns to trick marketing professionals into downloading malicious files disguised as job descriptions and salary details. The attackers purchased the malware from cybercrime marketplaces and used them interchangeably when targeting specific sectors. The attackers show little sophistication and have a high risk appetite. DarkGate, an information stealer, is a commonly used malware. It is widely available and has been used for keylogging, privilege escalation, and installing additional malware. The attackers use various tactics, such as sending malicious files through LinkedIn and compromising Office 365 accounts. They also use other malware strains like Ducktail.
