TV Advertising Sales Giant Affected by Ransomware Attack
Ampersand, a television advertising sales and technology company owned by Comcast Corporation, Charter Communications, and Cox Communications, was targeted in a ransomware attack. The Black Basta ransomware gang claimed responsibility for the attack, but the extent of the data stolen is unknown. Ampersand provides viewership data to advertisers and has been in operation since 1981. The company confirmed the incident and stated that they are working with law enforcement to address the issue. This is not the first cybersecurity incident for the companies that own Ampersand, as Cox, Charter, and Comcast have all faced their own incidents in recent years. Ransomware attacks on TV-related businesses have been on the rise globally. The Black Basta gang has been involved in several high-profile attacks, targeting various organizations.
