Russian State-Owned Sberbank Hit by 1 Million RPS DDoS Attack
Russian financial organization Sberbank recently experienced the most powerful distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in recent history. The attack generated one million requests per second (RPS), four times larger than any previous attack on the bank. Sberbank believes that new, highly skilled hackers are targeting major Russian resources. However, the attack on Sberbank does not compare to record-breaking DDoS attacks that have reached hundreds of millions of requests per second. In May 2022, Sberbank repelled a DDoS attack generating 450GB/sec, and more recently, the National Payment Card System (NSPK) in Russia was attacked, but no sensitive customer data was stolen. Hacktivist groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks.
