Russia to Launch its Own Version of Virustotal Due to US Snooping Fears
The Russian government is developing its own malware scanning platform called Multiscanner as an alternative to the popular service VirusTotal, which is owned by Google. The move is driven by concerns that the US government could access data from VirusTotal. Multiscanner, being created by the National Technology Center for Digital Cryptography, will offer similar features to VirusTotal, including remote file and link analysis using both static and behavioral analysis. The Russian government's push for domestic alternatives is in line with its efforts to establish control over its citizens' online activities for national security reasons.
