Large Michigan Healthcare Provider Confirms Ransomware Attack

McLaren HealthCare, one of the largest healthcare systems in Michigan, has confirmed that it is dealing with a ransomware attack. The attack was claimed by the Black Cat/AlphV ransomware gang, who stated that they have stolen 6 TB of data, including personal information and videos of the hospitals' work. McLaren has initiated an investigation and has hired cybersecurity specialists to assist. The company has not confirmed whether a ransom will be paid or if billing and record systems have been restored. This attack follows a recent ransomware attack on another major U.S. healthcare network. The issue of ransomware attacks on hospitals has gained attention at a congressional hearing.
